Earlier today I had just installed Guild Wars and all of a sudden my comp turns off and i smell a lil smoke. Then i open up my comp and notice the ends of my cold cathode light were blackened.... I tried to turn back on but, the comp would come on and everything seemed to be working internally but, the monitor didnt come on. So i did the normal overview, unplugged and replugged monitor cable and still nothing. So i thought my card might have fried so i installed my old card (was working last time i had it in) and still nothing. So i looked at my processor after i took off my heat sink and the processor wasnt melted or damaged as far as i could tell. SO now im at a loss. Im thinking maybe my motherboard is just fried. Possibly the AGP slot so someone please help me!!?!?!

    try a PCI videocard
and also try a different monitor if you can

I tested the monitor on my dads laptop, the monitor is still fine. And the powersupply works, everything seems to be running fine cept the visuals

try a PCI videocard, if that works you can safely say your AGP port is toast.

Where theres smoke, theres a broken pc part, sniff around and find out which part got a little hot under the collar,if you cant find the exact part see if you can narrow it down,to top, bottom, front, back of box.

How have you tested the psu works?

You cant tell unless you plug it into another computer,or check all plugs to check there appropriate voltages, does the psu smell of burning? If its no longer under warranty, open it and check for burnt patches.

Go to a local pc shop and buy a 5-10$ psu tester.

OK heres an update. I checked my comp on 2 monitors that work, and nothing was displayed.

I took out psu and nothing is visibly wrong inside or out. and the fan is running on the psu so im guessing its producing power.

    any other suggestions???

then it's safe to say your AGP port is k.i.a., if your mainboard is still under warranty, bring it to the store you bought it and get it replaced

Before you spend any money you can do this for free, take out the psu,get a paperclip and on the plug that goes into the mobo bridge the green wire with any black one this will trick the psu into thinking its plugged into a mobo, then get a testmeter and check all the voltages, check your mobo manual or psu manual for a small diagram of what voltages are where and check every line to make sure its working and of the correct voltage

Did you try resetting the BIOS? It could be that your fried up PSU cooked the HDD. Do you have a friend's machine that you can try hooking up the HDD? If so, give it a try.
