I am upgrading from Vista Home Premium to 7 Home Premium but it is getting hung on OmniPass, saying that I must install it in order to continue upgrade installation. However, Programs --> OmniPass uninstall will not complete giving an error that the program is not supported. I then try to delete the Program Files>Softex directory but am not "Permitted". I am the administrator of my own machine but it will not allow me to delete this. Please provide advice.

I managed to uninstall this infernal software (which I thought was malware until it showed up after I did a full recovery of the Packard Bell it had "infected"). I used the post on this forum (http://forums.majorgeeks.com/showthread.php?t=74425&highlight=softex)

I did the bit where it says to create a text file with the following in, saved it on the Desktop then double clicked it and said OK:

    REGEDIT4
    [-HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Uninstall\Softex OmniPass]

I then clicked Start | Run, typed in cmd and in the command window typed regedit. I then navigated through the left hand panel to the uninstall directory (as in HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Uninstall). I then click Edit | Find and typed in omnipass (or it may have been softex). This gave me a list of keys in the right hand panel.

There was an UninstallString key. I double clicked it and then copied (ctrl-C) the data from the Value data field. I pasted this into a textpad.

I then copied the long string ending in setup.exe.

I opened another command window pasted in the directory path to setup.exe and enclosed it in double quotes and preceded it with cd to change to that directory. I then typed in the drive letter "C:" (for some reason I was in the D: drive. I then typed setup.exe and the install shield program started to uninstall Omnipass. I told it I was sure I wanted to uninstall and off it went. It was a beautiful thing to see it gone!

The computer belonged to my nephews and this piece of rubbish seemed to somehow "appear" one day on the Startup screen and wouldn't let anybody log onto the computer. It resulted in them buying a new computer - so a very expensive piece of non-malware! Why Softex don't provide some decent support I don't know. Well, I probably do but that's another story.

TampaLuke, did that recommendation get that blasted OmniPass off your pc?

I have Vista Home and I am upgrading to Windows 7 and I pretty much got the same thing. Windows 7 won't let me install until I get rid of OmniPass and I am unable to uninstall OmniPass. The company has been no help to me to solve this issue. A friend told me that CCleaner may work to get it off also, but just his opinion.
