    I guess I'm "basically" asking a yes/no poll-type question here.

Older school "conventional-wisdom" (mindset) is/was that if new products weren't "bad" or bugged or whatever right out-of-the-box/first 30 days-or-so, they were "good" - and extended warranties/insurance were/ended-up being extra $ for the company or salesperson.

Is there anything different about modern TV/Monitors/LCD/LED that causes more concern beyond this early, initial purchase ("Honeymoon'?) period?

I'm looking at one here (which is "Re-Certified" by the way) with "90 Days".

Is anyone familiar-enough to know, if these newer products are similar to older type products, that again, typically showed any flaws early?

    Thanks in advance,
    Glenn

I hope this will qualm your fears. About 2 years ago I bought a refurbished VIZIO 37" LCD TV from Tiger Direct and it still works perfectly. If you're really concerned about the monitor failing after the 90-Day period then opt to get the 1 year service plan I saw offered on that item.

    Thanks Steve,

I bought the Samsung you linked me to without anything extended, but I believe I may still be able to add it before the set arrives (?) ... I'm pretty comfortable with this one though, Samsung is a leader in the industry.

It's just that my last monitor purchase (a 19" refurbed "Polaroid") has had an ongoing problem ever since about 4-and-a-half months of age, but at 2 years now, I still use it everyday.

    Thanks again,
    glenn

If you want an extended warranty, check out www.squaretrade.com. They're usually a lot less expensive than retailer warranties plus they have a great reputation.

PS: If you have small children who can reach the TV, I'd also get the accidental damage option. If the kids try to tickle onscreen Elmo too hard, screen damage can happen.
