Just finished installing Windows 2000 Professional on one of my machines.
    Installation went smoothly.
Problem is that it does not recognize my modem, router, or Ethernet connection. Also does not read USB thumbdrives.:cry
As a result, I am unable,at this time,to get any drivers for any devices(7 show as yellow and Ethernet is one of them).:confused
I do not have CD burning capability, so any suggestions?

Ever hear of floppy disks? the network drivers should fit on a floppy. after that you download them from the net

    Have indeed heard of them.
Have you ever seen a machine that doesn't have one?I have 2 of them.

yes the new systems come without them now. i ment to say once you install the network drivers you can download the rest from the net

Insralling is difficult with no CD burner,no USB being read.

Sorry. All machines, this one included, were from eBay and came with the original OS installed. No disks included.
    May have a workaround.
On the machines twin, find drivers and save to USB.
Remove drive that I am working on from machine.
Install as slave in a friends machine.
Plug in USB and use the Send To command to transfer drivers to problem hard drive.

why are you complicating this? i have installed drivers on older systems many times. NIC drivers will usually fit on a floppy. once you have the drivers installed it is then easy to go to the net and download the drivers you need for the system. I have found this this solution the least complicated way to get drivers for older systems. The other way to do it is go to a system with a burner and download and burn the drivers to CD and take the CD to the system you have to install the drivers.

Did as stated in post 7.
Opened and installed every single driver in the folder.
Still cannot get online with it.Even when using IE, I get a message box saying the page requested is not available offline.

have you opened the box to see what NIC is installed? It might be different from the second box. Then go to system on line with a burner and burn the drivers to CD

SiSoft Sandra, Everest, and System Information for Windows all give it as the very same make and model.
The machines are virtually identical. Only the serial number is different.

    Success of a sort.
Have managed to get online with 2000 Pro, but now need to do something about the graphics resolution.
800x600 at 16 colors is what I have with it. No higher is an option on the Display Settings menu.
Had 1024x768 at 32 colors on the same monitor with XP on the same machine.

that usually means your video drivers are wrong. get the proper drivers for your card.
