ok working on a computer that the motherboard went out so put the hard drive in another computer that i had and worked it has xp on it with alot of important documents, they instead of buying a motherboard just got a whole new cpu, i told them i could add this drive to a new cpu with xp, but there new one has vista, will it be compatible when i go get it and install the extra drive? will i have to remove the hard drive with vista? and also the hard drive with xp is a sata drive, and it said nothing about turning it to slave or have that option from what i read i will have to get a brand and what not but from what i seen it said nothing of putting jumpers a certain way to make it slave.

As long as the new pc has sata connectors you should be good to go, you wont be able to access xp but you should be able to pull your files off. ed

the new pc has sata connectors it is one of those slim compact dells, so no room to add a hard drive, well i disconnected the vista drive and put in the one with xp, and the BLUE screen is the only thing that comes up when it trys to boot, am i going to have to just copy documents to flash drive and transfer them that way to the vista
