I just installed windows xp pro on my new custom pc. The motherboard is an XFX NFS2-ALH. It has onboard AC97 audio.
I installed all the drivers from the motherboard's driver CD. Device manager says the Legacy Audio Device is installed, enabled, and working properly, but the sound doesn't work, it says no audio device is installed.

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Legacy Audio Device is not your soundcard.

Are there any '?' or'!' in Device Manager?

Sound like you have XFX nForce2 Mach4 Motherboard (NFS2-ALH V1.1F).

Are you sure it has AC97 Integrated Sound Chip?? Cause mostlly nForce Motherboard have Nvidia Sound Onboard.

It is AC97 audio, the driver for it is the Legacy Audio Driver.
There are no "!" or "?" in device manager, it says everything is working properly.
