I have a Gigabyte P4 Titan Board with onboard LAN. Problem is, every time I try to use it to connect to our DSL modem (which works fine on the computer I'm typing this post on), it refuses to connect. It says the device isn't enabled or something, but I enabled it in CMOS along with the boot ROM chip option, to see if that would work. It won't connect, and since there's no wireless here I can't pick it up. Any ideas? I can supply more information as this PC is in the same room as my own. Thanks!

Gigabyte P4 Titan Mobo w/onboard vid, sound,LAN (Possibly says Realtek???)

What does it say under 'network adapters'
    in Device Manager?

This is where you need to enable the LAN.

I have my Belkin Wireless card, which is disabled, my Hamachi Network Interface which is a software bit, and the Realtek RTL 8169/8110 Family Gigabit Ethernet NIC -- which is enabled. It's been enabled, actually.

If you are connecting more than one computer to the modem you need a Cable/DSL Router.

Does the LAN appear in Network properties?
And what is is status and properties?

    also start>run>typein
    services.msc

    are the following services started?

    DNS client
    DHCP client
    Network Connections

What happens to all this if you temporarily disable the Hamachi?

I know I need a router. I have one hooked up already, that's how two computers are connected to DSL in the same room.

Hamachi is disabled, since I haven't used it in months. All three services are running anyway, automatically.

In my Network Connection window in the CP, it says it's connected. But if I run ipconfig, I get an error: "Operation failed as no adapter is in the state permissible for this operation." Yet I have a status icon on the taskbar showing that I'm connected.

If it is actually connected you will be able to see it from the other computer in a command window typein

    netview

If you can see the offending computer you can try to ping it.

The hamachi system uses IP adresses outside the normal Windows network range.

On the offending pc, also in a command window

    ipconfig /flushdns
    ipconfig /registerdns
    ipconfig /displaydns

    then
    ipconfig /release
    ipconfig /renew

Every command I entered returned only:

    Windows IP Configuration

I tried them repeatedly and it simply replied with that. On this computer (the functioning one) when I tried to do netview I got a file not found error. Again, I haven't used hamachi in months and its device and connection are disabled.

There is a third computer connected to the network, if that makes any difference in the netview situation.

I apologise, I missed out a space (damn pcs should know what I meant not what I wrote)

    the correct spelling is

    net view

This should list all the devices connected to the network by name.
