Onboard Sound Card driver update ?

My Asus P6T MB has an Onboard Sound Card which I use. I am NOT having any problems with it, however I see on the Asus site there is an update for the Sound card on this MB. Does any body know of any possible issues of doing the update or should I leave well enough alone - I have NOT updated the Chipset, I believe the Sound Card is integrated into the Chipset (not real sure about that) - ?

The Onboard Card is: Realtek ALC 1200 current driver ver. I have installed is 5.10.0.5657

Anyways, I would appreciate some thoughts on this, I don't want to mess things up by doing something foolish !!!

Most driver updates on a manufacturer's site correct problem issues, or sometimes provide greater functionality for a device then it had previously.

Whenever I see an updated driver for a device of mine I check the release note/faq that is usually provided and see what issue correction or function upgrades the update provides. If I have no problems with the device or suffered none of the issues, and have no need for any new functionality listed, I generally opt to not upgrade the driver. If it's not broken don't fix it.

Having said that, sometimes an upgraded piece of hardware might depend on your sound drivers being up to date (I had that issue with a PCI TV tuner card). Modern operating systems from XP up are pretty good about rolling back a driver change (not to mention system restore, if you use that), so should someone want to update a driver just to see if it changes anything it is easy to change back.
