Here I am again hoping for some assistance to finally get day of defeat to run smoothly on my current pc :-o

The main problem is that I can only obtain 9 fps maximum when playing dod. My current system is a P4 3.00GHz, 2.00 GB RAM, Radeon X1600/x1650 running windows xp pro.

Steam is upto date and clear.

I have changed settings on the video card to allow for performance rather than quality and even tried adding different cfg files to see if someone else's setup could help improve the fps but neither did. I have reset both the settings ran the game again and achieved the same results.

There also appears to be a slowness when watching video. Is there a way I can test the video card to see it it's working properly. I've checked the settings within device manager and it confirms that the device is working.

Is there anyone who could help me please, all help is appreciated.

    Thanks

Does your system meet the minimum specs required for dod?

Yes, the game is a low spec. I have enough juice in this system to run this game. I'm thinking that it maybe a problem with the graphics card but not too sure.

I've just run a video test for my card and here are the results.

    WIN x86: 5.1 Processor: Intel(R) Pentium(R) 4 CPU 3.00GHz
    Radeon X1600/X1650 Series : 98

Completely baffled now as to why I only have 9 fps running dod when the test is showing nearly 100 fps?

One last thing, apologies for rattling on and on about this.

I've just finished a video stress test in counterstrike (unable to do so in dod) and had the result of 28.16 fps.

Anyone able to shed some light on this topic please.

You might try finding a forum where still people play DoD (BTW, the "old" DoD, or DoD:Source?), just Google. Original DoD was my first online gaming ever, ahhh....fond memories.

Thank you so much for more information, i remember you helping me years ago when i had an older system so it's very much appreciated.

I've ran the system requirements lab and it says that my system passes the requirements and that i should have a great experience running counter strike.

You are more than welcome. To me you seem to have a very "slow" by today's standards system, for gaming anyway. Is there any way you can add more RAM? At the least, try to get your present system running as well as possible, try this http://majorgeeks.com/Game_Booster_d6148.html (it's free), also read through this http://www.majorgeeks.com/page.php?id=39 it's all good information. I have used Game Booster and this http://www.majorgeeks.com/Advanced_SystemCare_3_d5927.html for years, they both work great (and are both free :-D ). I "think" that DoD:Source uses more resources than CS:Source, but still, find an active forum that plays those games. Good luck!

Thanks again for the further information, I've added both programs but no luck unfortunately.

Looks like its time to save up and buy a new system instead of trying to restore older ones.

I appreciate your time and when I eventually get a new system I'll try and find you on day of defeat.

    All the best
