One step DVD ripper/DivX converter (?)

I'm kind of on the lookout for a FREE app that will rip my DVDs and convert 'em to DivX/XViD AVI files in one step. It's kind of a drag to rip/decrypt the DVD, wait a while 'til that's done, close it, then launch a 2nd program to convert the ripped movie to an AVI file. It would be great to be able to just put the DVD in the drive, launch an app, point it to the DVD drive and click "Go". I know there's numerous paid programs that do this, but so far I've only found one freeware program and it hasn't been 'updated' since 2006 when the project was cancelled by the developers. It's called EasyDivX and can be downloaded from here: http://www.aplusfreeware.com/categories/LFWV/EasyDivX.html. The EasyDivX home page opens and simply says "Project Cancelled - 1.1.2006".

Any ideas or suggestions will be greatly appreciated!

Yeah, this is an old thread.... but I did use Bit Ripper, and it works fine.... since this thread was started, Major Geeks has started hosting software from WinX, and they have a free "one click" DVD ripper... straight from DVD to AVI in one step. Nice. It also rips to other formats for portable media devices (MP4 for example), and MOV and WMV. You can also use it to extract the audio from a DVD and save it as an MP3..... here's the download link:
