OneNote update/removal problem

My son was recently given a second-hand laptop, which he 'cleaned up' and passed on to my wife & me.

(Windows 7 Home Premium 32 bit, SP1)

On close-down, it 'stuck' on 'Updating - 'item 22 out of 30'.

Still stuck (no activity light) the next day, so I 'killed' power.

By a process of elimination, I have got all the other updates to update. The 'culprit' is an update to OneNote 2010 (Update KB2837595). My son says he removed OneNote from the computer, but found problems.

I understand OneNote is connected with M/soft Office. The computer has Office Home & Student 2010 and Office Powerpoint Viewer 2007 installed.

The update still tries to happen on every shut-down, and still sticks. I want to get rid of OneNote and its update completely.

Any help will be welcomed.

Important part:

You can’t remove Office programs individually after the suite has been installed. You must uninstall Office completely, and then reinstall it using a custom installation following the steps outlined above.

Since this is second hand, I'm assuming you don't have the actual download from the Office software?

You may have to uninstall the entire thing and try to reinstall via Custom installation. The only way to do so without paying for it is to find your product key.
