OneTel in UK - SMTP problem

Any experience (in the UK) of OneTel email settings?

Trying to get a friend's new XP-SP2 box running with Outlook Express, taking IE settings off the old W98 box. It seems neither will send emails out, but both receive.

OneTel support confirm the account is OK and the IE SMTP server is set OK.

Their Support says there is an XP problem - I doubt that. Blaming the hardware is not on as internet is fine.

One known unknown is that OneTel now calls itself TalkTalk (Ohh Noooo!). Could the corporate changes have filtered down to the SMTP level?

Anybody know of any unknown unknowns?

Hi

No doubt you have checked this, but always best to double check the settings as just one wrong tick especially in Use Name and Password type boxes can hamper the connection to the mail server or make sure the correct server is chosen for the email address as it seems they have .com and .net addresses.

also I have noticed in some settings pages that they have a third option as well in both incomming and outgoing server settings as mail.onetel.net.uk so also worth a try with that one too.

They should still have the same mail server settings, if not its a poor customer service show on their part.

Well, thank you Halo - you have pointed to a possibility (xxxx.net.uk) where the support screens tell us to use mail.onetel.com.

Interestingly these pages also advise on one page to use and ID of XXX and on the pages you refer to to use XXX@onetel.com. Tried both with no luck.

Will report on using .net.uk.
