Online game not working. Sand timer comes up then nothing.

Check this. This game was completly fine, worked fine, and played fine no problems. Didnt play for about 3 months. Try to open, it loads with the sand timer (In windows XP), then does nothing.

That was the outcome. I then re-installed and realised the disk was faulty (corruptions when installing) so i spun the disk out my 3rd floor window as far as i could.

Bought another copy.

Installed off of the new copy. Problem = not loading. (No corruptions in installation)

Im stumped.

Any ideas ?

Tried double click exe on desktop
Tried double click exe in folder
Tried loading via 'run'

None worked

Wait, you're having issues with a Ubisoft game...? Are you sure you didn't just run out of installations? They sometimes allow a certain number and after that you can't reinstall until you've proven you have a legit copy. Look up the DRM for your game, and make sure it's not just the copyright protection interfering. Ubisoft is known for some really weird things in that department.

 

I guess that speaks for itself, nice idea though.

Ive re-installed this game probally 20 times in its lifetime. All with different CD Keys.

Any other ideas ?

Hm. I guess that kind of excludes DRM as the cause of the problem...

Then again, if there's no DRM, try this: Boot to Safe Mode, and turn off all your protection software. Antivirus, firewall, the whole thing. And then try to install again.

I wish I had ideas... I am also completely stumped and though I've done some searching for more information I haven't found anything other than speculation that I didn't think was concrete and credible enough it would help you.

The only thing that keeps coming up over and over is to install the game in Safe Mode, but that has already come up in this thread, so if you've tried that and that didn't work, then I'm unfortunately a little out of ideas. Since I don't own the game, it's hard for me to test it on my own system.

It didnt work. It went one step further in safe mode, the game loading screen came up and then it crashed with this error...

Crash in application version: 29980.2562

Failed setting up render device.

Renderer: threaded
Physics : threaded
Then i rebooted in normal mode and the game failed to even show me the loading screen, all it did was say the normal jargon ' the crash has happened upon an unknown error, sorry bla bla bla'

This was the error...

This is a video card error, and "failed setting up" usually means that the game was unable to detect a video card it can work with. What is the make and model of your computer and your video card?

I found this online:

Minimum Requirements
Memory: 1024 MB RAM
Graphics Card: 128 MB DX9.0c compatible card GeForce 6200 or higher Radeon 9600 or higher

Recommended Configuration:
Memory: 1024 MB RAM
Graphics Card: 256 MB DX9.0c compatible card

If your video card isn't supported, that could explain everything. So in other words, we need to look at your system specs.

 

All my settings exceed the minimum capabilities. I have a nvidia 9800gt graphics card.

If that's the 9800GT card that you have a 2-page thread about in the Drivers forum, that would have been really helpful to know about from the start...

I briefly skimmed through that thread, and judging from the number of hardware problems you're having either with RAM or with the video card itself, there is no point to continuing to troubleshoot this one single game until any hardware problems with your computer have been solved. One thing at a time, and obvious hardware problems first.

Start by going back to your other thread and finishing it. If you have RAM or video card issues, it doesn't matter what we do here. You have to fix your hardware problems before it's even worth our time to try troubleshooting your game.

You can come back to this thread when your hardware thread is done. For right now, the last thing you should do is have more than one thread about your issue. Keep it in your first hardware thread, and keep it there until it's completely resolved. Then, but not until then, come back here and we'll finish up with GRAW.
