When I play video clips on the internet, they play for a while, then stop, then startup again, then stop, etc. People have indicated that my DSL internet connection does not have enough bandwidth and that is the problem.

I have Win XP, intel 3 gig processor, 1 meg RAM, NVIDIA GeForce FX5500 video card, DSL internet that tests download speed at 354kbps 44.3kb/sec and upload speed of 334kbps 41.8kb/sec. I have plenty of hard drive space.

My DSL seems fine for all of my other needs, so is there any way to watch these video clips from the internet so they play straight through? I have also tried some online tv stations with the same problem. Is there some way to improve the buffering, or other way to fix this short of changing my internet provider? Your assistance is appreciated.

Those speeds mean you probably have the lower end DSL package --like me --I also experience the lag. This is what I do short of upgrading my speed--

First make sure that no other programs are using the connection--p2p etc..

Second press play then pause and allow the video buffer to load it -(-Little bar on the player gets steadily darker-)-should take just a few seconds ,you can even start it at 1/2 way then it will finish loading as you watch the first half.

It also depends upon your browser --IE or Firefox,etc..

I prefer firefox and use an add on named UnPlug 1.6.06 that allows you to grab any media even flash games and ads to download it to your pc so you can watch it off line.

Another plug in for firefox blocks all ads and definetly speeds up my load times-- AdBlock plus and filterset g updater (the best add ons for FF in my opinion)

Thats it --Hope I helped ya

Click ABP icon and ensure it is turned GREEN on this website, so we can still help pay for the site! (I don't own it, but I do what I can to put 0.123578 cents per ad in the bank!:D )

Link for the unplug FF plugin

I am headed to DSL myself so this will be a great addon!

Why the two sets of numbers for both download and upload? Are you saying your download speed varies from 334kbps to 44.3kb/sec and your upload speed varies from 334kbps to 41.8kb/sec?

The first number is kilobits per second and the second is Kilobytes per second. 8bits=1 byte so the second number is the first divided by 8. :D
The second number should be written with a capital K but I've seen it written incorrectly all over the web.
