To everyone on this forum and especially chaslang and Major Attitude...

    THANKS!

By following the generic solution for "only the best", I was able to remove this junk from my PC. Now if we could just string up the idiots who write/distribute this stuff.

You're welcome! I'm happy that it help you out. Have you rebooted and open and close IE a few times? It does have a very nasty habit of reoccurring. Make sure you check out: How to Protect yourself from malware!

You're on a long waiting list to get at the "idiots"!!

Thanks again. Yes, I've rebooted several times, open/closed iE multiple times and so far, so good.

I will follow the malware suggestions -- obviously scanning is not enough.

    For your reference/research...
Following your generic process, I had some odd results in two places.

11b) Could not empty Recycle Bin. Error message "Cannot delete D@103. Must be connected to server."

13i) CCleaner -- same error message as above.

That's good! Sounds like you're clean. I never heard of that file before and have no idea what it is nor why it cannot be cleaned. But it is not a problem in the procedure. Do you run any kind of software that protects your Recycle Bin (like protecting things from being erased). Are you in some kind of network?

Recycle Bin -- no, nothing special in terms of protection that I can think of. This PC is normally part of a corporate network but again as part of the IT team, I cannot think of anything that would prevent RB deletes. Funny thing is that the RB appears to be empty. I could go in and do a low-level scan.

But...if this RB stuff has nothing to do with the HSA hijacker I think I'll just leave well enough alone.

I would not worry about it either unless you were having problems.
