think I screwed up, nothing unusual about that. I downloaded several programs off of major geeks lately and something keeps turning the printer spooler service off. after days of frustration and pulling most of my hair out I finally figured out how to turn it back on. the programs I've downloaded and used their scans are AVG anti virus, Quick Care, Advanced system care, and Iobit malware fighter. any suggestions please. thanks in advance

You can't run both Iobit and AVG, they fight like cat and dog and cause system problems ;) Be careful only ever to run one resident AV program at any one time.

    Hi,
For starters unless you are well versed/ trained in working with a computers registry, I would advise you to uninstall the Advanced system care and Quick care, I would suggest if you need a registry/system cleaner tool to download and install the latest version of Ccleaner, DO NOT TAMPER WITH ANY OF ITS BUILT IN SETTINGS, only run it with the recommended defualt settings that are already set!!.

I would also get rid of AVG as it has become very problematic of late and can bog your system down, IObit is a fantastic tool especially if it is the paid version and it is running in "realtime protection", I have this running in conjunction with Comodo internet security suite and they run great together.

If you run the Advanced System Care process boosting feature, it turns off several services, deemed not needed. Spool service usually gets turned off. One needs to ask "what else got turned off that I really need?"

Nowdays, realtime security guard programs tend to watch for both viruses and spyware, which are called "malware," even though their names suggest AV or spyware/adware only. This is true for their scan features, as well. Its best to never run more than one of these at the same time to avoid system conflicts, false positives, or failure to detect problems.

There is a sticky in the Malware Removal forum, which you may find very helpful, r.e. How to Protect ...
