open a port

I recently installed a Linksys Cable/DSL Router, and I dont know how to open a port. I use Limewire and Bittorrent to download files. Limewire works and my internet loads pages just fine, but Bittorent doesn't. It tries to download, but it's very slow and it has a red caution icon at the bottom of the window that says: "Not connectable, A firewall/router is limiting your network traffic. You need to open up a port so others can connect to you". I don't know much about routers, can someone please help me?
