Open File Problem

Everything was going fine up until last week or so. Back then when I went to open a file through any program the files would be listed by type which made it very easy to find things. Now for no reason that I can see the files are listed by date modified and I can't the files to stay sorted by type either. When I look at the files through explorer though they are sorted by type just as they have been for the past eternity.

 

Have you tried opening a folder with files in it (any folder would do such as 'My Documents'), then arrange the files in the sorting order you want, then on top Menu bar click on: Tools > Folder Options > View (tab).
On top of the View tab, you will see the 'Apply to All Folders' button, click on that and then YES to confirm.

If you haven't already tried that, it should help.
