    Hi all,

I thought Open Office worked with Microsoft Word?

    Thanks in advance.

Depends on what you mean by work with it. The compatibility between applications is pretty good for files that are in the 97-2003 format. Documents that are in the OOXML format (.docx, .xlsx, etc) are not properly supported. While I can open them in Linux, I cannot save to the same format. In addition, things are scrambled and unreadable, such as with equations.

The Windows port of Open Office is even worse.

Shame on Microsoft for making OOXML

Yes, shame on a document format that allows you to recover the data if the file corrupts unlike ODF.

    Shame on them!

OOXML is so horrible that it is not accepted as an international standard.

Oh wait. Yes it is is: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Ecma_International

If you have to you can waste you time and use a converter.

I used Open Office to send a plain text document to a microsoft word pc.
The recipient was unable to view the document.
I am unsure if they are using office 2007

Sounds like a problem on the recipient's end.
