Mastertech. Did a search on my PC and have 4 versions of hh.exe on my laptop ranging in size from 11 kb to 36kb and dates from 1997 to 2002. In c:\windows\system it is 27kb and 17Nov1997. In C:\windows\Hepldesk\SFC it is 36kb and 23Apr1999. Most recent version is 11kb (10Jun2002) in C:\windows and also c:\windows\options\cabs.

What version should I keep and in what file/folder. W98SE OS. Bazza:)

    Simonk,

If it's not configured to open chm files automatically,
you can update your registry so it will.

    click start -> run.
In the run box, type 'regedit' and press enter.
    When regedit opens, go to:
HkeyClassesRoot look for a .chm entry. If you don't
see one, right-click on the HkeyClassesRoot folder
and click 'New Key'. Name the key .chm (include the .)
Find the .chm key, and in the right-pane you will see
a (Default) setting. Double click this and set Value Data
    to 'chm.file'

Once a .chm key has been established and it has the
default value set to 'chm.file', scroll down in the left-pane
until you find the 'chm.file' entry. If there isn't one,
right-click on HKeyClassesRoot and choose 'NewKey'
Name it 'chm.file'. Find the chm.file key. If it has
a subkey called shell, click on shell, otherwise,
right click on the chm.file key and create a new key
called shell. If shell doesn't have a subkey named
open, right-click on shell and create a new key called
open. If open doesn't have a subkey named command,
right-click on open and create a new subkey called
command. In the (default) value in the right-pane
under the "open" key you just created/opened,
set the default value to: "<path to hh.exe>" %1.
    Example: "C:\Windows\hh.exe" %1.
Make sure to include the quotes around the path
to the hh.exe file incase it is a lfn.

Once you've done this, you're finished. close regedit
and click on any chm file and it will open with the program
    you specified.

    Hope this helps,
    RJS

Re: open & print chm files and hh.exe

Thanks Mastertech, Went back and did a search again for hh.exe. I did a M$ update to IE6 the other day and now c:\windows\hh.exe shows 11kb, 29May2004, 9.35am and is version v5.2.3644.0 so I guess this is the latest update:) . Will rename the other copies to hh-old.exe for a while before eventually deleting them. Thanks again. Bazza
