open software updater : virus ?

    tells me internet explorer is in need of update: i ran malwarebytes, hitman pro; don't see 'open software...' in uninstall section, control panel, etc.; i have the latest internet explorer, i tried to install internet explorer 9, it won't let me, says i've got the latest version: is there a way to delete and re-install internet explorer ? thanks

    If you're running Vista or later, go to Control Panel -> Programs and features and Show Installed Updates (see att'd). Make sure you get IE9 from Microsoft and nowhere else by using Windows Update -> Scan for Updates.
