I've set up a shortcut on my desktop for the command prompt. Is there a way to program it to open on a specific directory. Thanks.

    What is a context menu?

I've got a basic command prompt on my desktop. I want to change the default directory.

OK, I've added CMD.EXE on my context menu, but the problem is still the same, how do I change the default directory.

A context menu is the list of options that appear when you right-click something. You get different options depending on what you click on (or what context you're clicking in), hence the name.

Which method in the link did you use, Bill?

This shouldn't be any more difficult than installing the CMDHere powertoy from Microsoft. That should let you open the command prompt to whatever folder you right-click and select "Open Command Window Here"

Or, if you just want a single shortcut that leads to a constant location, all you need to do is this:

    1. Right-click your desktop shortcut
    2. Select 'Properties'
    3. Change the path in the 'Start In' field to the file location you want
    4. Apply your settings.

I copied a shortcut to my desktop from the programs menu.

I installed and uninstalled the command prompt from my context menu.

Guess it is time to install powertoy, since I wasn't really familiar with it I was a little nervous about installing it. I hate installing new software on this machine I'm not familiar with, it's already showing some lagginess.

    Thanks folks.

OK, excellent. I tried properties before, and couldn't seem to get there from here. I'm not sure if power toys made the difference, or if I was misreading the screen.

    Again, thanks.
