While reading through the heated debate about firewalls in this thread, I came across a reference to OpenDNS in one of the replies (it was #10 ). After a bit of research, I had a deja-vu'. Back in late January '09, I started a thread where I asked about OpenDNS and got only one response that was basically negative toward OpenDNS. So, I'll try again: why would someone use Open DNS? What are the pluses and minuses of OpenDNS?

    Thanks.

    Hi dlb

Why use OpenDNS, well in the main its a good security option as routing yourself through their severs and DNS, will filter out alot of junk pishing and as they have large capacity DNS servers the potential is their to possibly speed up your surfing.

best option is to actually give it a try and its free, but say dont add the DNS to your router but to a PCs settings and test surfing off against another PC with your default settings, if all seems better add DNS direct to the router settings so all PCs use that DNS.
