Some of my friends send emails with attachments I've not seen before and I cannot open them. For instance: .email, .msg
Do I need more software to open these or what???

If you are using IE6 then they are being stopped by the AntiVirus security measures to stop you opening a potential virus in an attachment.

open IE and goto Tools > Options > Security and untick the "Do not allow attachments to be saved or opened that could potentially be a virus" then Apply.... you should now be able to open or save the attachment.

one thing I will say is if you open attachments be very clear where they are from and from whom.... also keep your AV scanner upto date... best practice is to save the attachments and run an AV scan on the saved file.

In Outlook Express, click on tools/Options and then click on the Read tab and uncheck Read all messages in Plain text.

I already have that box unchecked. The extensions of the attachments are different than the "norm". The ones that come to mind right off hand are those I mentioned in my initial posting: .msg .email , but this has happened before.
I have updated AV at all times.....I update daily..........guess you could call me paranoid about viruses. My scanner scans everything in and out, and I do not open anything from people I don't know or am unsure about how careful they are.......thanks for the warning, though. I'm wondering if the files were created/saved in a different format that requires more software than I have. Usually Adobe will try to open them, but of course it can't.

Thanks to you both........will definitely try that and see if it works........who knows I may have been missing out on some great stories, jokes, info, etc. that hasn't been around the Internet 3,000 times......think that's likely? ...............me neither, but am still curious to see what's there.
(will let you know if it works)
Thanks again for giving me something to try.
