Opening Files in XP - keep getting search option

Can someone please help..I have windows xp

Whenever I go into My Documents it opens correctly, but whenever I click a file inside that folder a new page opens with the title 'search results'.

I have to then use the xp search function which has opened up to view what files are in the folder...you know the one...the one with the little doggie at the bottom.

I have now just tried this

Start > My Computer > Local Disc (C >

Every file I click after this seems to do the same search option with the little doggie..

This is so frustrating...please help

 

what happens when you right click the file and choose "Open With" (selecting the program from the list that is used to open the file i.e.. *.doc =ms word)

Yeah, MS is stupid.

Or lazy.

Probably both.

Its easy enough to hack your registry so it never happens in the first place.

However, MS could have just as easily written it into an SP without even regression testing it.

 

when I right click file.... 'open with' is not there

'open' is there

I click open and the file opens as it should if I was to open the file directly

cheers guv, I followed the previous instructions you posted on the other thread, and it is now ok...any idea what may have caused it, would it have been done manually or any oher way.

If you had a paypal donation box I would probably gladly add, this really gave me the hump....cheers again.

 

Its a bug. Usually what happens is that someone goes into the file association for File Folder, exmaines it, and ALL it takes at that point is to click, OK.

Then your fate is sealed.
