Opening Multiple Ports

I need to open alot of ports. Way too many to do individually, and I need to know if i can do it all at once. I need the following opened (to prove my point):

    TCP Ports:

    25
    80
    110
    443
    1024 thru 65535

    UDP Ports:

    50000 thru 65535

Is there something I can do to open them all quickly? A program or a command?

What do you mean by opening ports? Are you using a program that needs those ports? Or do you want to open up those ports in your firewall/router?
Why would you want to open almost every port on your system?

Exactly. I'm running a program, well, a game, that needs all of those ports.

That PlayOnline Final Fantasy XI Game. Is there any way to do it?

If you mean 'Listening' then the game itself will open any ports it needs to use. Opening ports with another program will only let the program that opened them recieve data on them.

I think you probably mean port forwarding but I also wonder exactly why a game needs http, smtp, pop3 and ssl ports.

By opening ports do you mean you want the port to listen for an incoming connection or do you mean you want to be able to send outgoing data via that port and open it on the firewall.

THERE IS NO WAY ANY GAME 'SHOULD' WANT TO OPEN AND LISTEN ON PORT 25 and 110 as these are ports for smtp and pop3 and there is no reason why a game would need to run an smtp and pop3 server.

Even if you mean port forwarding I doubt very much a game would need to connect to 110 or 25.

Also the only reason it would be making an outgoing connection to a 110 port would to be to recieve email and to 25 to send.

Please clarify what you mean by 'opening ports' do you mean allowing them through your firewall?, running as a server?, port forwarding (through your router) and also find out why your game uses standard email ports.

Some routers will let you configure a list of ports in 1 go by specifying the first and last as you specify you need with the udp ports, please tell us what model your router is.

110 and 25 ARE for mail. PlayOnline has a system that is able to send and recieve mail to and from other PlayOnline users, that's probably why they need the use of 110 and 25.

I'll try anything, I guess listening would work first, because i've heard that before.

    I don't have a router, i don't think, unless you mean a modem. I have a Comcast Terayon TJ 715x Cable Modem.

I've hooked my Playstation2 up to the modem directly through the Ethernet connection.

I don't know what you mean by running as a server, and allowing them through my firewall would be a plus too.

Sorry, I'm not a very technical person, ususally i call up TechSupport. They just can't help me, and i need to do it myself, so I figured to ask here, because most of the people here are much better technically than me.

    Thanks Alot!

If you point me to where you read this information or tell me exactly what it says I can help you.

You don't have a router.. ? how does your computer connect to the internet ?

Directly ? THrough a router ? Through another computer?

    What firewall are you using.

Im pretty sure you need to open the ports for incoming connections on the firewall or set port forwarding on the router, forget what I said about listening ports as you will not be running a server.

i had to call up the Play Online Tech Support for the information. They Pinged my modem and said everything but the 15th ping was fine, and that there was some blockage in the ports. The 15th ping timed out apparently.

I connect to the internet via a cable modem. i connect the modem into a splitter, which feeds into the cable, and then connect the modem to my computer with the USB port. I'm using the Ethernet for the Playstation 2.

I use Windows Firewall. I tried to use ZoneAlarm, but i didn't understand it. I had the free version, and i'm pretty sure the Help section was designed for the retail version.

The people on tech support gave me those port numbers to unblock, and i used a program i found on this website, and it said that all of the needed ports were in fact closed.

I don't suppose tech support said what they were pinging ? Were they testing your ports were accepting connections ? Why on earth would a game be running servers on http, ssl, smtp and pop3 ports ?!

I really dont know. It's on Online game, if that sheds light on anything. Like a comunity type thng where more than one person from anywhere in the world can play on the same server.

They didn't say what they were pinging exactly, they just said "everything went through fine until the 15th ping, which timed out."

Set zonealarm to allow your game and also allow it to act as a server, that should be enough. The game should open any ports necessary, no need to manually open them. If you get an error, disable the firewall and test again.
Have you actually tested the game, or are you following the instructions in the manual without testing?

can i do that with the free version?

    if so, how?

Go to Program Control, select the programs tab and search for your game. If it is not listed, execute it once to get zonealarm to detect it. Now put a green checkmark (=allow) in The Allow-Trusted, Allow-Internet, Server-Trusted and Server-Internet columns. You can also accomplish this by ticking remember and pressing yes when a zonealarm alert pops up when you start the game.

This game doesn't play on the computer. it plays on the Playstation 2. That's why the ports need to be opened.

Are you connecting your playstation and computer at the same time? The Terayon manual states you can't do that.

Wait...So if i want to play the game, i have to disconnect the USB that connects to my computer, and i want to use my computer i have to disconnect the ethernet connection that connects to my playstation?

if that's the answer...I'm going to feel so dumb, lol.

Ah, Nevermind. I tried to unplug the USB that connects my computer, and I STILL got the same Error Message (Error Code: POL-1558).

So i definately need a way to open those ports, or a way to let the game open the ports for me.

    Is this at all possible?

The thing is, a TJ715x is just a modem and not a router. All ports are automatically relayed to your device. Try to unplug both your computer and the playstation from your modem and then turn it off. Plug in ONLY the playstation and turn it back on. Then turn the playstation on. (If you just disconnect the USB cable, the modem might not detect that right away). I also read high internet traffic may cause the error.

Thanks for the adivce on that, but it still didn't work.

Maybe there is a way to tell my modem to accept all incoming port requests?

Because i've never really fiddled with it, so it may be a setting that i need to change.
