    Hello again!

Our office is trying to migrate from the MS Office suite to Open Office. However, for the time being, we need to keep MSs file formats until the change has propagated throughout the network.

Now, when OO users try to save a MS format document (.doc, .xls, .ppt) they are prompted to change the file format to OO's. Is there any way to disable these prompts, and save in MS format by default?

Thanks for the link, Halo. I dunno why I didn't think of looking there myself.
Unfortuantely, OOo's FAQ seems to be pretty sparse. I'll check through the built-in help.

I'm not sure about the stable 1.1.4 version, but the 1.9 beta version you should be able to save document as a word 97/2000/xp format, by clicking on the "save as" option, then when the save as dialog appears change the "Save As Type" to "Microsoft Word 97/2000/xp"

Hope this helps. Also, this "should" be the same with the other apps within openoffice.

Just downloaded the beta 2.0 to play with, and if you goto ( I used writer ) Tools > Options > Load/Save General and untick Warn when not saving in OpenOffice or default format, that should stop those messages.

No, you're right, efool. OO does support MS formats. However, the problem specifically is that when an .xls spreadsheet is opened, and you try to save any changes, you are prompted to convert it so OO formats, which is NFG for users who are still on MS Office. So, the user has to click NO...then when you close the app you receive a warning that saving in external file formats may cause loss of data. However as it DOES support MS formats, this is not an issue, rendering the warning into a mere nuisance.

I just want to disable these warnings. Even if the program doesn't have an option to do so, I can likely comment out a procedure call in the source, so the more I think of it, the less of a problem it is. Thank you so much for your help, though!

I'll have a look. We have been using v1.14, due to some compatibility requirements.

    Hey hey! Problem solved!
There's no check box in 1.14 as you were speaking about Halo, but there is an option to change the default save format, which did the trick.

Thanks for the help guys. Yerrr swell. Really. I should've been able to find this on my own, but today has been so busy and stressful. Props to you both!

Ugh, misread the original post. Didn't catch that this was what the original poster wanted.
