Anyone have opinions on the Vista Transformation Pack? I'm thinking about downloading it, but wanted to see what opinions y'all had about it.

    Thanks sd420

I didn't care for it, myself. Too much resources, and it didnt always work right for me.

I use VTP 6.And it's awesomeThe release of VTP7 is still buggy ,so I will wait for 7.01.Adrynalyne,you can't run prog's like this and have 0 ram drain.VTP installed without third party apps uses very very little resorses, but if you want your comp to look like vista, you must sacrifice some MB on RAM.MR.Windows X says that if ya want to use VTP7 with third party apps,512 is minimum, but still use little ram than original Vista.

I like WindowsX's work, but some have had luck in ruuning this without issue some not so lucky, so my advise is if your going to try it backup your important data first!

Are we talking original Vista Transformation Pack or the actual Vista?

If actual Vista, personally I have found opposite, Vista vs XP on my PCs, Vista handles memory much better, what happens is many read stories on the net from the testing phases of Vista, when there were many error and bug collecting tools built in to store and hold errata, this was memory hungry, now that these items are removed, many still complain about vista's memory usage but do not understand how vista handles memory, yes if you leave vista to continue with idle background tasks while your not making it work it will gladly suck up all the ram and cpu it can get its grubby paws on, but it's not because its a resource hog!

Vista takes all that memory your not using and starts throwing things it knows you use into a memory, uses spare cpu to index the data on your hd, having 2GB ram and 1.5GB free is not a great usage of ram, that ram can be used to hold common used dlls, files, apps for quick running, ram is faster than paging it on HD.

Vista will for the most put aside those tasks its running and hand you back the memory when you try to access something that requires more ram or the ram its using.

Oh, I know. I have 2gb of ram, the drain wasn't my complaint. It was the overall sluggish feel of it. Not really the system, but the sidebar and other apps bundled with it.

VTP himself don't use any resorses in memory, third party apps is the ones who play with the memory.Sidebar>15mb,visual tooltip>10mb,Styler>14mb
    PS:THis is with 1Gb ram.

I guess the upshot is VTP is fine on its own, but adding more sidebar gadgets, tools etc will bump up the ram requirements? so if your adding more gadgets make sure you have 1GB+ .. would I be right Goran?

Yes,VTP is fine on it's own,I preffer 1GB,but you can run everything on 512MB.MY brother run VTP with sidebar, visualtooltip etc, with no probs.Explain me this: example Sidebar on my comp with 1GB eat 15MB,but on my brother comp with 512MB eat 8MB.Why?

TBH Goran I have no clue, a possible is that some of the files on your Bros comp are in pagefile over memory and as your PC has double the ram you can handle the whole apps files?!

But thanks for the info on VTP.
