I would like to upgrade my cpu to a more recent model. I presently have an AMD Athlon 64 3000+ 939pin on an Asus A8NE-FM board. I'd like to upgrade to an AMD Opteron 939pin dual core, and am told it will work, but i want to be sure before i make the investment. Can anyone give some advice on what i should be looking for? Any help would be greatly appreciated! My system specs are listed below. Thanks guys!

Yes you can run an socket 939 Opteron Dual Core CPU
Officially no Optys are supported, but they will work on your MOBO but you might need to update your BIOS
I'd suggest you upgrade your memory, 512 is slim for a single core

What do you use your PC for? there might not be much benifit going DC

You'll need to update your BIOS to version 1010 or 1011
just looking at Asus CPU support list they do list Opterons

As Asus says, update the Bios, and do it before you purchase the AMD Opteron 939pin dual core,
-Lesson I learned, don't get rid of the older psu, put it away safely, in case you develop motherboard problems, and have to replace it.- and have to update Bios with other cpu. Many boards are able to run the Dual cores, but most need an updated Bios, hence the need to do it before you fit the new one.
