optiarc dvd rw ad-7530b nh02 won't write

I am trying to use InfraRecorder to write an audio CD but it does not write anything to the CD - although it does not report an error - just says it has done without doing anything. I have tried writing the CD just using Explorer - it reports that the media is full and requests that I put an empty CD in. Whilst looking to see if my drivers were up to date (as XP was reporting) I came across Microsoft FixIt which I thought worth a try. It reported that my device is not capable of writing CDs - I have attached the log which is html converted to text so pologies if it unreadable.

Im guessing you tried updating the firmware

 

Yes - have kept looking into this and have now updated to a file I found here:

but I still have the same problem. I am starting to thing that my write laser might be fried.
