Hi & thanks in advance for any suggestions!!

    I'm currently running a sys. on a shuttle av 40r with p4 1.6 ghz(16x multiplier)400 fsb, 512 mb pc2100 ddr sdram 133mhz. Video card is nVidia Geforce2 mx/mx400 agp.

I would like to upgrade sys. but keep mobo. So if anyone could give me pointers or suggestions on which cpu, ram and video card to look for it would be much appreciated.
what I have managed to research by myself( I'm doing this for the fist time)
    is as follows:
cpu- P4 2.5 ghz (25x multiplier- how, or if at all can I do this with existing mobo)
Ram- I'm trying to find same module(I'm looking at adding 2x 512), but closest I've managed is 512 mb pc2100 266mhz. Is difference in speed problem, can I somehow raise the speed from 133 to 266mhz?
Video c.- XpertVision gf 6600le 256 mb 128 bit ddr, ramdac 400mhz, agp 8x interface. Is 8x problem since spec for shuttle av 40 is 4x?

What do you plan on using the PC for?

If you're a gamer, that 6600LE will be a very disappointing "upgrade".

Yes, I'm upgrading sys mainly because I can't play some games, but I'm not hardcore gamer and games I play are not super demanding( Civilisation4, UFO-aftershock...)
And, I cant spend lot of money for upgrade.

An LE is even slower than a 6600.

If you can get a 6600, or even better a 6600GT, it would be far more powerful.

6600GT's can be picked up for very cheap these days, and most should work with a 4x AGP slot.

Thank you Insomniac, I'm definitely going to check 6600 gt!

I have further question, if one is upgrading his sys. and is using new hardver, whose speed is higher than some of remaining components, but is(should) other way be compatible, are new parts going to perform at maximum possible speed of remaining comp; perform at all, or there is possibility that we are going to fry something!?
And, if those components are working fine together, do we have to do some changes in BIOS or somewhere else, or components should automatically adjust themselves to optimum possible performance? I do understand, that this way I'm sacrificing some of the capacity of the new parts!

    Thank you all a lot!

Not sure if I completely understand what you're asking?

The parts mentioned should be compatible, and should work at optimum speed.

You shouldn't have to play around in the Bios, but it wouldn't hurt to make sure your new CPU is detected correctly. (Important thing is to check the motherboard supports the new CPU before you commit to anything.)

RAM should also be automatically detected, but again double check.

With the video card, uninstall the driver via Add/Remove, shutdown the PC, swap cards, then reboot and install the latest nVidia driver and adjust your desktop resolution.
