Is there any good (systematic/experienced) method of "knowing" which of these (below/screenshots) is "Trialware" (which I am fairly sure I either, [1] do not need/desire, or [2] cannot afford), and which of these are "relevant" (worth my while), please?

I mean, I obviously realize that I want to keep the programs that I've downloaded (Firefox, Thunderbird, SpywareBlaster, etc..), but all these items from Samsung, and nVIDIA, and "Windows LIVE", for instance, how do I "know" if I "really need" them (currently), or not, please?

    Thanks in advance,
    g...

Before you start removing things have you done two critical steps?
    1. Burn a restore/recovery DVD or maybe 2 or three. Some manufacturers also have you burn program disks and drivers disks.
    2. Gone to Windows update and updated what needs it.

Those are ALWAYS the first two things I do. Later, I start cleaning up. Google is your friend. I google an item to see what it is. If I'm not sure if I need it, I keep my hands off. I also take notes before I start removing things and during the removal so I can go back and see what I have done.

Thank you plodr for your reply...

    2. Point very well-taken on Windows Update(s)..and I will do this.

    1. I am not so sure, as this 2 & 1/2-day old Notebook/Laptop does have an "Optical" (DVD) Drive, I am not 100% sure (at this moment) if I can "burn" (copy?) disks (?)...this remains one of the (numerous) areas of "tech-confusion" for me.

I do have some blank "CD's" on hand...both CD-R & CD-RW...will either, or both of these work? I apologize if this draws you into a discussion you would prefer to avoid, and I will understand if you chose not to engage in it...

Win 7 needs DVDs not CDs. I suspect that is probably the situation with Win 8 too.

In computers I've purchased lately, in the program listing there is a program with the brand name of the computer. When I click on that I get a menu that says computer brand Recovery Management. I click that and one option is to Create Factory default disk.

Look around for something like this on your Samsung

Thanks as always plodr...sorry I'm a bit slow on the uptake...I have finally determinded that my "Optical" drive does indeed PLAY DVD's (not just CD's), so my next "step" will be to figure-out if it can "burn" them too . . . (this may take a while . . . ??) . . . . . . . . :major
