Boot with a boot disk and delete the partition using fdisk. Recreate the partition and format.

    Hey..I am the demon's Dad...LOL!
This is the issue. We got his gaming computer going and we just wanted to see if all was good, I knew that we would not be able to leave the XP OS on his machine so I bought 98 from a friend of ours. A sells person at a reputable computer store here in Austin told us we would be able to just put 98 over XP.......DIDNT HAPPEN! So you may have to explain this step by step as if I were a 2 year old if you dont mind....lol! I know that when I go to install 98 it starts installing files but I cannot remember if I was even able to get to the partition part of the setup. If I am able to get to the partition part of the setup are you saying to delete the partition it shows that currently has XP installed? I know once you get to the partition part of the setup you are able to delete a partition. I had thought about doing this but thought this might be a no no.

When you say boot with a boot disk you mean with the current operating system ( XP )
How do you delete the partition using fdisk? and were do I find the option for fdisk? I have never used fdisk before to be honest so like I said you may have to explain this as if you were talking to a 2 year old...lol

    Thank you for your help!!

Here is a recent thread with some other good suggestions, along with a post from MA.

The XP cd using recovery console is probably the fastest route.
Here is the command you will use once recover console loads.
    FORMAT C: /FS:FAT32

If you still want to try the boot disk.
Use a win98 boot disk to boot the computer up.
If you do not have one you can download it here. http://bootdisk.com/bootdisk.htm

    Type fdisk.
    Within fdisk delete the partition.
    Create a new partition
Then once the partition is created use format to format the new partition
    Format C: /s
