    Hello,

I recently decided I want switch my OS from Windows to Linux, I'm just uncertain about a few things. I decided to download the latest SUSE release (5 CDs) to try it out on my PC. I just feel that my Windows XP (SP2) with Avast are eating most of my resources and I want to run a lighter / smoother system on my ol' PC (see specs below).

-Is SUSE a good option for me? or should I consider another Linux release?
    -Is Knoppix a decent option?

Anyway any suggestion would be appreciated, I'm just waiting to reformat and try something new.

    Thanks

SUSE is fine, if you've never used linux before you may want to consider Fedora or Ubuntu instead though. Mainly because you'll find more community support with those two plus Fedora has been a known as a starter for a lot of people. Although Ubuntu has really been growing a lot lately.

As for Knoppix, there is nothing wrong with it. But it's a live distro, it's really only meant to be run off a CD. If you want you can install it to the HD, but then it's essentially just like having debian, as Knoppix is based of Debian. Which is another good release. Although you'd be ahead to use Knoppix as a way to check out linux, rather then to run your computer off it, as installing Knoppix to an HD is only kinda supported.
