    hey guys,
my girlfriends dad has a acer travelmate 2480 running on windows Xp not sure if 32 or 64 should think 32bit, he was useing it the other day, and he turned it off, the next day it turned it on and it came up with the accer screen loadup... but takes ages to go off that screen, once it does get off it, it loads up with,

    "
PXE-E61: media test failure, check cable ((WHAT cable?))
    PXE-M0F: exiting PXE ROM
    Operating system not found
    "
    and just sits there...
it didnt come with any back up cd's or anything, there is no way that you can preform like a reboot that i know off...

    Any ideas?

    Greetings, sion...

You can pretty much disregard the 'PXE' entries: it's just announcing that it tried to boot off of the ethernet connection...

As far as the 'OS not found', you might try the first step: can you boot into Safe Mode?

Nope, That is all that happends... it doesnt even come up with last known good config or safe mode, nuffing like that?

    That ain't good...

My first step would be to switch to hardware: try getting into BIOS, make sure your HDD is recognized...

Also, while in the bios, check to see if the hdd is the 1st boot device.

i can get into BIOS, after a while... waiting it recognizeing things as i tryed that by putting a memory stick in, so thats all good?
    Order:

    1: IDE CDROM: MATSHITADDVD-RAM UJ-850S - no cd in,
2: USB HDD: SAndisk u3 cruzer micro
    3: USB KEY:
    4: USB floppy:
    5: Network Boot: B02 D00 Yukon PXE
    6:
    7:
    8:

    Excuded from boot order:
    : ide 0:

    .....

So, with what Caliban suggested you check did you see if the hdd was recognized?

Agreed: I don't see a hard drive listed there...

Sion, be advised: this is looking more and more like a hardware issue, so the forum admins may bump this thread to the Hardware section...

The fact that your HDD isn't listed is why the OS is not being found...can you hear anything like the HD spinning up when you turn on the machine?

And: while in BIOS, try forcing detection, instead of the 'auto detect'...

yeh, when i turn it on it does sound like a fan spinning, where the hard drive is, i taken it out and put it in but it seems fine...

The 'excluded from boot order: ide 0' is bothering me...

I've got to go to work - I'll check back on this thread later...

One shot before I leave: in BIOS, there may be an option to disable the machine from trying to access the ethernet connection - this may speed things up until the HD problem is resolved...

    Good luck!

the ide:0 isnt doing anything, but i think... thats the hard drive main one cuz when you reset them all thats the one that goes to the top.
