Not off hand but many virii mutate and are tweaked with new payloads and effects to infect various different parts of the PC from the original.

Usual things apply in keep Windows upto date, as well as your Security software and safe surf.

It's always nice to be aware of the next new one but there's only so much new info on malware that one can take in unless it's their full time job. As Halo said, as long as we do our part as well as we can then most likely we will be just fine. I mean, how many MG rats like us, have you ever seen in the Malware forums?;)

I pity the folk that know no better or are click happy etc. I trust my machines as I do online purchasing and banking and have never been burnt. I also have my most important things saved on a pen drive, no one is going to get that info unless they pry it out of my dead fingers!:-D

I casually mentioned this article to my husband yesterday and basically he asked me if his computer was ok....checked out fine with all the updates, etc.

My hubby is a stock trader and at the close of the market he told me that Macafee stock was way up for the day and he didn't know why....then I reminded him about the article, and he said "now that makes sense"....:)

I'm up to date with the exception of IE 8. I've heard some things about it not being very likable. I use MFF, do I need to go IE 8 if my primary is Mozilla?
I do security checks as well but, I'm going to do the C Nets steps just to be sure Better to be safe than sorry:-orolleyes
    Thanks for the tip KahtM.;)

Hi bigtrucks, I have IE7, and put on a block for IE8. I have heard and am still hearing too many "bugs" showing up in that View attachment 115477 one.. I am sure we are safe with IE7, just as long as you have the latest updates, and I did check this evening, and nothing is showing up in windows updates...

I am going to stay with IE7, and skip IE8 until they get all the View attachment 115477 out of it first...

    Hi folks

IE7 is fine to stick with as a browser, and keep it upto date as with Windows and Firefox as no browser is really safe as this malware is coming predominently via Flash and Adobe Reader, so also keep them upto date. This one is initially going after servers to create a botnet then infecting PCs, via in the main users using IE and searching on google from the small bit I read early this morning on this.

In a nutshell what I'm trying to say is while Fx doesnt have the same areas of exploits as IE, its not foolproof so do nto rely on the fact that you use Fx and you will be safe.

Hi Halo, I sure do hope this doesn't affect Apple Quicktime, because my PSI told me my Apple Quicktime was insecure, and I am at this time downloading a VERY LARGE update for it... :confused

I have Apple Quicktime 7.x, and it is updating (I HOPE!) 20.9MB HUGE.

Everything else seems to be fine, tho.. Thanks for the info... ;)

The info below is not related to the new virus but: See this link. http://news.cnet.com/8301-1009_3-10251544-83.html#comments Active X allright (and Apple QuickTime), not being patched by Windows Update this coming Tuesday.

Thanks Oma, my Apple Quicktime updated just fine.. I was surprised, because it was fine last week :confused Yup, I do like that PSI... Nice little "assistant" there. Thanks for the link, too. ;)

Also, I have Windows XP Prof., SP3, and IE7

Man, I just got this system back together after getting caught with something a couple months ago. I had to do a clean install of XP pro and reload everything. I have definately learned to do weekly backups or nightly if I am not the only one on the computer that day. :major
