Out Of The Blue!

Recently, after shutting my laptop down for a rest (Gateway NE56Ro4H, running windows 10 64 bit), the damn thing on startup asked for a password I do not have. Never changed the password myself, and can't get it to reset.

Any suggestions ? Mosander

 

Just some background details to help:

1. Did the system cone with Win 10 or did you enable a free upgrade from Windows 7 or 8, 8.1?
2. What was your normal boot sign on process - password, PIN or photo?
3. Is your sign on account a Microsoft account, or a 'Local account'?
4. Have you tried to boot into Windows Safe Mode? (The easiest way in Win 10 is to restart the system, then when log in appears hold the SHIFT key down and at the same time click on the far right bottom screen power button then click on 'restart'

i tried it, but when i went to system restore, it asked for a password, would only let me type four characters, and my password is eight.

 

That is not the route to Safe Mode:

this is what you should see after restarting as I said earlier, then you need the right-side middle option START UP SETTINGS
You then choose a Safe Mode option and it restarts again.
But if it is asking for a password that you have always used before, and you know it correctly, there is no reason it should not accept it.
