Outbound connection monitor....exclusive?

Hey all fellow Geeks. I have a situation and I'd just like to hear some of your inputs. I am on a wired LAN behind a kickbutt NetGear 8 port router (forget linksys....once I got a NG i'm never going back, these things are BUILT).

Now, the Router/NAT does a good enough job in my opinion of protecting me from scans, and inbound threats. But what about outbound? Yes, I am aware that Zone Alarm and all software routers monitor outbound traffic as well. But I already have a hardware router, so using a sofware router with half of its features redundant, well just seems wasteful.

Does anyone know of a firewall/connection monitor that notifies you about, and manages outboud traffic ONLY? I'd like to keep it low on the resource usage definately. I see a lot of these trojan scanners and trojan guards. For you guys whom have tried them, what do think, are they pretty decent, or are they crap?

no, sorry, i just get loopy sometimes. i do appreciate the answers, and will try AbbeySue's recommendation as soon as I get a chance; that actually seems like what I need the more I think about it. My apologies for double posting and coming off sorta rude. I quit smoking a month ago, and that plus the Wellbutrin(Zyban) has me kinda nutty now.
