Any help very much appreciated: I've bought a new computer, installed all of my software on it, and have copied various files and settings across including my Outlook .pst file. All good except that it refuses point blank to run any of the rules and alerts that I defined. I can see them but next to them they say "(other computer)". I've tried editing them but to no avail - I cannot seem to get them to say "(this computer)" next to them even though when editing it says "on this machine only" (which I am unable to change).

This is frustrating because I have rather a large number of Rules set up and it would take a very long time to start from scratch.

    TIA

Are you downloading your emails from an exchange server ? The other computer indicates that the rules were set up to only work on a different computer.

No, I'm just using Outlook 2003 on a laptop.

Did you import the rules from an old outlook ?

Try going back to the old outlook and editing the rules there anc checking the "on this machine only" part of each rule is unchecked then exporting and reimporting.

Thanks - I'll try that. I didn't actually import. I just copied the PST file from one machine to another. Everything else works fabulously. I just have this one minor irritant. Will try your suggestion this evening and report back. Thanks.

OK, I have a solution. It's a bit silly but basically all I had to do was Export and Import from the same copy of Outlook (i.e. hit the Export button, then hit the Import button). This did mean that I ended up with duplicate rules but that was easily solved by deleting the original "(For other machine)" versions.

Slightly daft but there you go. It works. Thanks to matt.chugg for the help and suggestions. :)
