    A couple of questions:

How long have you had this problem?
Have you installed any other software or any hardware recently?
Has your computer shown any other symptoms that something may be wrong?
Have you tried removing extra devices (printers, external HDD's, etc) to see if that fixes the problem?

That may get us started towards a solution

    Hi

What Service Pack level do you have on your Office 2003 version? latest is SP3 and as its a rollup of what was in SP2 in that SP2 did fix an issue with the possibility of an error generated with ntdll.dll

    Office 2003 SP3

If you are at, at least SP2 or SP3 then try this and disable any none Microsoft Add-ins to see if Outlook still crashes.

    Hi

That seems a tad drastic in a re-install, try this and open Outlook in its Safe Mode, click the Start orb and then in the Start Search box type this outlook /safe (note the space between k and /) and see if outlook still crashes.

Also what is your antivirus software? some AVs which have an email scanning component are known to cause issues in Office so disable any Office Email scanning component in your AV to test.

I would even install SP3 for Office, may actually fix what maybe broken, also run from and elevated command prompt sfc /scannow (needs to be elevated in Vista to work, so click Start Orb and in the Start Search box type cmd and when it appears right click it and choose Run as Administrator) may need Vista DVD.

    i use avast..
i did sfc last nite - said there were corrupt files that it could not fix.

nice try - started OTL in safe mode as directed, and got the same prob- it crashed within mins...

Ah, there go the ideas of something 3rd party causing this, I guess my final thoughts are as you ran sfc and gained soem none fixable errors that your HDD "may" have errors on it.

So try scandisk and see if that picks anything up, right click your HDD in Computer and choose Properties > Tools tab > Check Now under error checking and then tick both the boxes in the next window (auto fix and scan for) and next message will be a reboot on as error checking needs to be done at boot.

ok and other ideas at this point.. did scandisk and check disk... started up OTL and got the OTL not responding thing - close the program? box.

It seems that a lot of programs can get the "AppHangB1" problem. The only solution I found for that is related to a problem he had with IE7. Perhaps his solution will help you with your outlook problem.

Does anyone know if SFC makes a logfile so we can checkout the 'unfixable' corrupted files?

well today i reformatted my HD, reinstalled Vista, installed Office/Outlook 2007 (up from 2003), --all was fine for a FEW hours and then BAM- OTL 2007 crashes!

    could this be the cause?

MAP clients timeout or crash when downloading very large folders View Details & Report
IMAP clients aren't always designed to handle the huge amount of mail that users store in Gmail. If you have thousands of messages in your labels, we recommend doing some housework to clean up your labels in the web interface. Remember, the web interface shows counts of threads, not messages.

one thing I can think of is where you are getting your emails from. Is it gmail? Does outlook crash when you don't have any email accounts?

  19. BLOND37

Yup good ole GMail... hmm i dont know never tried that (having no email accts)

Try running outlook for a while with no email accounts and see if it still locks up. This may show if Outlook's interaction with GMAIL is to blame. Perhaps it is your anti-virus scanning incoming emails that is causing the problem also, so you can try turning that feature off on your anti-virus software and see what happens.

If all else fails, keep in mind that there is thunderbird you could use instead of outlook.

Ok I'll try it in the next couple of days. SO TIRED of adding and deleting email accounts.
I wish I could use another client but only outlook sync my calendar contacts notes with my iPhone/iTunes.

Re: Outlook 2003 crashing a lot (due to mail)

(fyi, i have my gmail set up as imap.. i dont use pop... i use imap because if i dont i have to read/delete every email twice - once on my laptop in outlook and once on my iphone)

it appears my outlook is crashing due to too much mail in my web gmail box.. i thought archiving in gmail would take care of this, but it doesnt.. what other solutions, work arounds are there??

ive tried to delete some old mail but i'd be sitting here until kingdom come... i dont want to create a new email address

    Hi

What it does is force Outlook not to grab the unread email count, if your Gmail account is like many Gmail users and full of spam, then Outlook will grab this count of the spam folder and it can be hundreds as Gmail dispite their notice of deleting all spam after 70 days it does not work, in one account I have that I use to sign up to things I dont fully trust to not send me spam or sell on email address is now at 700+ spam messages (I've left it just to see how many it gets)

Big question is did this help and Outlook not crashing now?

Aslo have you installed the SP3 for Office 2003?

  28. BLOND37

LOL, ok this is all over my head... but what i did in the past couple days was to reformat my laptop, reinstall vista, and since my laptop came with a 60 day trial of office and outlook 2007 installed that. then i went into my Gmail account and chose to labels, and my "all mail" and chose to not show in IMAP.. i think since doing that OTL has only crashed once and hey its windoze so its gonna crash every now and then.. (lol)

    Hi

Sounds good, only thing is the Office 2007 trial will end (also install office 2007 SP2) soon, so are you going to go back to Office 2003 or are you going to get Office 2007? (I do like Office 2007 and use it at home and work)

If Outlook crashes again, do disable the COM add-ins that I mentioned earlier (the non Microsoft ones) and see if it crashes still, only thing in disabling the add-ins is that things like iTunes sync will likely not work, and as you like me have iPhone thats going to disable the sync, so do make sure you have latest iTunes, but I've not had same issues as you have, but all apps are fully upto date and I never use email antivirus scanning as all files will be scanned anyway with the general resident scanner of the antivirus app.

While Windows or Office are not perfect they are not always the culprit, in many cases its a 3rd party addon or app that also need to be looked at or for as causing said issue.

Do let us know if you get any more similar issues with Outlook as its a curious one and would like to know whats causing it.....

    :)

    HI

I run OL 2007 in work via Exchange 2003 and at home I run OL 2007 via ISP and its quick, I dont use OL for Gmail though, which could be this issue, Gmail as its not fully POP complient as its HTTP mail may not play happy with OL, would give Windows Live Mail a go with Gmail (Windows Live Mail is free) as a trial with gmail and see if its better or worse.

Using OL 2010 tech preview with Gmail and its ok for me.

As for the processes thread I may jump in on that but you have way too many processes running at startup, I have 6 you have near 20!

please expand on the 6/20 issues
