Outlook 2003 doesn't archive deleted items

I have a problem with one of our Outlook 2003 users and archiving email. He keeps all of his deleted items so I want to auto archive them. I have set the archive for that folder to just a couple of days, then run archiving for that folder, and nothing goes away. He has over 600MB of emails and attachments in it. Is it possible to archive the deleted folder? Have I missed something in the settings? I've tried setting my own Outlook 2003 deleted folder to 1 day, but there are items in it from three weeks ago. All the other folder archive with the auto archive settings as they should.

Items that are deleted are deleted and not archived, info HERE

If your users wishes to save what they delete, then best option is to do what I do and create a store folder and move any items I want to delete to that folder, I also have sub folders there with various contacts names and projects I'm working on in case I wish to recover an email, this folder will archive.

I actually archive per year so my main inbox in Outlook and on Exchange server are virtually empty apart from just the current months emails and even them I start moving emails I wish to keep into the archive folders per topic/contact, manually at times.

I figured it out finally. I was thinking that the settings for each folder were different than the Auto Archive settings. Confusing Auto Archive with default.
