Outlook 2003 insert file freeze

Good day,

I have a XP Pro SP2 user who, across two versions of Outlook (XP and now 2003) gets an application hang every time he opens the 'Look In' drop down box on the 'Insert File' dialog.

I just tried it in safe mode: no improvement
Detect and repair: no improvement
Safe mode AFTER D&R: no improvement

Google's not being any help yet. Since this seems to be persistent across office installations, I'd have to think it is windows API related, but I do not see this hang anywhere else. Any advice anyone can offer is greatly appreciated.

I know the security update below caused alot of "hanging or freezing" issues in Office applications, just something to check.

Alright! Thanks for the link, Steve; it described our problem to a T. However, the causes listed here don't apply to our users, and neither do the resolutions. I tried uninstalling kb908531 which seems to be related to the problem, but that hasn't helped, either.

We now have 2 users affected by this problem, and I can't seem to find a resolution. I'd appreciate any further advice the majorgeeks can offer.
