Hi guys.. I have yet to be able to get my gmail setup with my Outlook 2007 email client with IMAP settings. I get all the way through the setup process and when it comes to time to test settings.... It will never loggin to my gmail... keeps popping up a window wanting me to insert my username (which I know is my actual gmail ex. johndoe@gmail.com) and my password (which I am 200% positive I have the correct one. I use it daily to login to my web gmail account. for whatever reason, it refuses to acknowledge the settings I am imput. Any help is greatly appreciated.

    Details Are Listed Below:

    • OS = Windows 7 Ultimate Edition (I have also tried running the setup using winxp & vista settings with no success)
    • Email Client = Outlook 2007

    Server Information:

    • Incoming = imap.gmail.com ....... port 993 SSL
    • Outgoing = smtp.gmail.com ....... port 587 TLS

I have my actual email for user name (ex. johndoe@gmail.com)

My password has been double checked and checked again... I know its correct.. I use it everyday, checking my mail online.

Also in my Gmail settings > IMAP has been ENABLED (still now luck)

Thanks in advanced for your time and efforts!

Hi, I've just set up my gmail account on Outlook 2007 using IMAP to test this and it worked first time. I just entered the basic information asked for on the first setup screen - Name, email address and Password and clicked Next. Outlook then set up my account with the correct settings automatically.

If you were entering the account and server settings yourself I suggest you try the easy way ;)

Make sure your username is the full email address.

May I ask you, "what operating system you are running?"

I am running Windows 7 Ultimate and am wondering if Windows 7 maybe the issue.

ok.. I am able to make pop3 mail work by creating a google app password and using this password within outlook, instead of my actual login password. However, I am not wanting pop3 mail.

I am wanting the IMAP mail settings, so it will sync across all my devices. IMAP is enabled in my Gmail settings. But still no luck .

Any help really is appreciated! Been trying to figure this out on my own, off and on for about a month now, with no success.

I am curious if it has something to do with windows 7

Hi, I was using Win 7 Pro x86 and the automatic setup in Outlook 2007 worked fine for two different gmail addresses. I'm now on my laptop and can use either Win 7 Pro x64 or Win 8.1 x64. I'll delete those two gmail accounts and try it again from here and let you know.

Something very odd going on but impossible to say whether it's a problem with Outlook 2007 or with Gmail. I deleted the two accounts I set up this morning and tried setting them up again from Outlook 2007 on my Win 8.1 Pro x64 laptop. The first IMAP account set itself up first time from the first Outlook account setup screen by providing only my (real) name, gmail address and password, and not checking the box for manually setting up. The second IMAP account, which works perfectly in a browser, failed using exactly the same method, so I checked all the settings in the first account and tried again using the Outlook manual setup and identical settings other than name, gmail address and password of course. FAILED!

Like you, I am absolutely certain that the provided info is accurate, but I cannot get the account set up in Outlook 2007. It's very frustrating and I'll go on ferreting until I crack it.

Well, I have gone through the whole palaver again in Outlook 2007 on my laptop's Win 7 x64, unfortunately with exactly the same outcome. I have accessed the account in a browser and verified the logon credentials that way but Outlook 2007 still fails to set up the account. The first account, as in my laptop's Win 8.1, sets up automatically, no problem.

The only thing that I can see that might be blocking this is that both accounts are being set up from the same IP address and Gmail perhaps may not like that. It's the only thing as far as I can see that the two accounts have in common :confused

However that doesn't seem to be your situation as I understand it, as you haven't succeeded even in setting up one gmail account in Outlook.

I don't use Outlook myself, preferring Thunderbird, and I have experienced none of these problems, or any others in that client. You may want to try that out instead.

thanks a million for your extensive trials & efforts to help resolve my problem. I have been successful in getting gmail setup with outlook 2007 using pops settings. Just tried that to see if it would work. I removed that account in Outlook 2007, as I do not want pop3 mail. I need IMAP, so my mail will continue to sync folders , etc. with all my devices.

Thanks again for trying... If you or anyone else comes up with a solution, please post here. Until then I am going to keep experimenting. If I figure it out or find the solution, I will also post here to hopefully help someone else with this issue.

    Thanks again!

Just as a final check on settings, here are the ones from my one successful gmail IMAP account as displayed in Outlook 2007 account settings

Your name - the name you want others to see on your sent mails
Email address - your full gmail address
    Account type - IMAP
    Incoming mail server - imap.gmail.com
    Outgoing mail server - smtp.gmail.com
Username - the first part only of your email address, exc @gmail.com
    Password - case sensitive password

also check Remember password and Require user logon using Secure Password Authentication (SPA)

    My IMAP Setup settings

Username: my gmail address (ex. johndoe@gmail.com)
password: my password (I know without a shadow of a doubt this is correct)
    imap.gmail.com = port 993 SSL
    smtp.gmail.com = port 465 SSL or 587 TSL or 587 AUTO

When Testing settings > All is completed and working... but when I try clicking "NEXT" to complete the setup in outlook 2007, I keep getting "The Requested Operation Failed."
