    Hello Guys,

I am currently running Outlook 2003 which came with Small Business Server 2003 and was downloaded automatically from the server to my laptop. The server is running Exchange Server.

The laptop in running Windows 7

I am proposing to install Office 2010.

The installation disk asks if I want to replace previous versions of Office components. Am I safe in allowing Outlook 2003 to be replaced with Outlook 2010 as the present installation is linked to Exchange Server?

    Any help will be appreciated.

I guess that is pretty standard when upgrading Office software. But it is always a good idea to have a full backup before starting some major upgrade.

    Thanks for the advice pwillener,

My system is backed up to our server, and to a NAS and the most important files to a web based remote facility. So I think I am OK on that score and I will do a system restore point before I start.

My concern is if I install Outlook 2010 will it work with Exchange Server without much intervention - because I don't really understand networks and Exchange in particular

Most setting should be automatically migrated to the new Outlook 2010 installation.

However, it would be worth noting down the Exchange Server settings in OL2003, in case anything goes wrong.

But I have upgraded Outlook 97 to 98 to 2000 to 2003 to 2007 with Exchange Server in the past, and everything always automatically went fine.

OK so I bit the bullet and all went perfectly - that's a first!

Outlook 2010 replaced the 2003 version without a problem. Everything migrated.

With the copy of Office 2010 came an offer to upgrade to 2013 FOC so naturally I went for that but with less success.

Apparently Outlook 2013 cannot access Exchange Server files on SBS 2003. It said that the files were on an unsupported version of Exchange.

So I will stick with 2010.

    Thanks again to all
