OUTLOOK Attachment Error???

I get this error when I try to open an attachment in an e-mail coming in or to ck an attachment before I send one??

Any ideas??

yes the attachment wants to open, however you do not have the application installed on your computer to open it
so its gives this error
find out what it is ie doc and load word to open it.

 

I don't understand?? I never ever had a problem before opening an .exe, .jpg or any other attachment with Outlook. Now, all of a sudden this problem. So i do not compute with you saying I do not have the application to open it? what does that mean? nothing special about an exe or jpg or doc or whatever?

What application are you referring to? If I have a jpeg attachment in an email I should be able to open it. Please explain, never had this happen before. I think I will reinstall Office XP and see if that solves the problem.

Check if any file associations were lost (??).

 

Here's the solution to my problem offered by a very wise friend of mine. Worked like a charm.

On your Outlook trying to open Jpeg files.
On XP with Office installed, from within Outlook the default viewer is the really stupid and really old MS Photo Editor. Go change the file association within Exporer - Tools - Folder Options - then the File Types tab. Look at the JPG and JPEG items and see if they are pointing to the Photo Editor instead of the newer and much better XP Photo Fax viewer (or whatever it is called). Double click on a jpg file outside of Outlook and see if the XP's Photo and Fax viewer opens up.
