I have recycled my 98 and upgraded to XP; but why does Outlook Express 6 torpedo my dial-up connection? I can't send E-mails through it because it kills my Internet connection. I would LOVE to be rid of it if I could. Suggestions? Whovian33

In your options with outlook express is a setting to use the same settings as Intenet explorer .....make sure it is set that way ....and only dial if a connection is not already established ....or words to that effect.

There should be absolutely no problems in using Outlook Express with an upgraded 98 to XP. I'm surprised that if it was just an upgrade that XP didn't keep all your previous settings.

There is an option in Outlook Express to "hang up after diailing", as well, which might be doing this. I don't have the program infront of me, but I THINK the option is under tools menu->options and the connection tab.

Well the option is actually to hangup after sending and receiving rather than dialing. :) But it is where you indicated. :) :)
