I have no idea what is up with OE6 all of a sudden my views bar is showing up and I can't get rid of it. Yes I have tried going into options and unchecking the views bar box and also by right clicking and unchecking views bar. After unchecking the box/name the views bar is gone but when I reopen OE6 it is back just like I never unchecked it. Sure, I can live with the views bar but it is annoying because I don't use it and it causes the files to go over farther to the right which I don't like.
I have searched Microsoft and it talks about error messages etc.. I don't have any error messages and just want the views bar gone.
    Thanks,
    sw :)

This may not be a fix but more of a workaround.

Left click on 'Views'. You should see a directional arrow. Pull down till 'Views' is below the toolbar then release.

Try right clicking, deselect 'Views Bar' and see if it now remembers your setting.

In other words, position the "Views Bar" on a second row, a separate row below the Toobar, right?

That might be helpful. I'm not sure what he meant by "... it causes the files to go over farther to the right which I don't like." What "files"?

Where is that in Options? I see no such setting there.

    Hi

When did this start happening, had you just installed anything new? if so what?

Is your Windows Version upto date?

As an outside chance that you have some security application that blocks changes to the registry ( Spybot S&D) then disconnect from internet to do this. Disable your security software and try changing the view setting again, then re-enable your security software if the change has been sucessful after say 3 or 4 open and closes of OE6.

Another possible is a toolbar, so do you have any of them installed? if so uninstall them to see if they where blocking the changes.

my error I meant I tried going into View then layout and then I unchecked the Views Bar box
my error again I meant the Headings of File Edit View Tools Message Help
No Actually the views bar for me is at the top on the very left it says views and then there is a spacer and then the Headings File Edit View Tools Message Help The tool bar is directly below this.

Okay, I have figured out what is causing the issue but not how to correct the issue unless I just simply uninstall and not use the program that is causing the issue. I will be getting in contact with the program maker and seeing what can be done to resolve the issue.

What caused it? Spamfighter I really like using that as I don't have to deal with so much spam as it really takes away alot of it and I don't need my children to open up our family email and see stuff for viagra, male enlargements, etc..

Halo I did do what you suggested of disconnecting from internet etc..
and it didn't work so I uninstalled spamfighter and no more views bar. Reinstalled spamfighter and viewsbar came back and the problem of me not being able to uncheck it and have it stay unchecked is back. As I stated above I will be contacting the company for help from them to see if there is a resolution because what a person unchecks should remain unchecked.

Also, I have no other toolbars installed I don't like them so I don't use/install them. The only toolbar I have in OE6 is the standard OE6 toolbar. My windows is XP sp3 and my updates are current as I check windows updates once a week to make sure I am current.

Thank you everyone for your time and help and I do apologize for my errors in typing my original post.

    Have a great day..

I've got grandkids and know exactly where you are coming from.

Interesting that Spamfighter should cause this. Possibly a bug in the program.

Thanks for posting the cause of the problem. Will definitely add this info. to my notes.

Hopefully the folks that produce Spamfighter can shed some light on this for you.

So, the main issue here is that, with your Views bar displayed, you can't see the whole menu bar (File | Edit | View | Tools | Message | Help). Is that it?

The toolbars can be moved. Left click just to the right of the vertical dotted line at the left end of the toolbar and hold the left mouse button down. You should see a diamond shaped pointer appear. Then, drag the toolbar to the desired location.

I have my Views toolbar below the other toolbars on OE, on a separate row.

Yup that is the whole problem I can not get everything moved the way I want it either... I prefer to have the Menu Bar on top, then the Tool Bar, & then my SPAMfighter Bar and NO Views Bar at all.. I just can't get everything to stay the way I want it.. With the Views Bar there it looks like this for a Screen Shot see the attachment so that way you all know exactly what I am seeing..
I can move it so that it is Views Bar, Menu Bar, Tool Bar & my SPAMfighter but then it goes right back to the way the attachment shows when I reopen OE6.
Thank you everyone for all of your time and help & still waiting to hear back from SPAMfighter.

Finally heard back from SPAMfighter they tell me it is a Microsoft problem because no one else has reported the problem out of millions & millions of users. I try to tell them that I don't have the problem if I uninstall SPAMfighter but when SPAMfighter is installed my Views Bar will not remain unchecked.

All my updates are current & I can't find anything else that would be causing this conflict of my Views Bar not being able to remain unchecked except SPAMfighter because the only time I can't keep it unchecked is when SPAMfighter is installed. So, to me it is a SPAMfighter problem right????

I really like SPAMfighter as it helps to keep a lot of undesireable SPAM from my inbox but I don't like the fact that there is something that I don't want to appear on Outlook Express and the only way I can have it gone is to uninstall SPAMfighter. Views Bar and SPAMfighter have nothing to do with eachother so why can't I have it unchecked and for it to remain unchecked and still have SPAMfighter installed??

Just bugs me... maybe I will never find a solution to this but when I come across something that I know it shouldn't be like that it just irritates me and bugs me and drives me insane until I can find a solution..

If anyone ever figures this out would be greatly appreciated if you would share it with me and I will do the same regardless of when I figure it out.

    Have a good day!
