    Re: Outlook express

I have a problem in Outlook Express and can't figure out what had happened. I can no longer open links in my emails. Anyone out there that can make a reccommendation?

To get the most from support offered here at MG please start your own thread regarding any issues you are having rather than posting in someone else's thread. Also, it would be beneficial to you and those helping you if you would review the Announcement: Before You Post Asking For Help, Please Read This thread that appears at the top of all the support forums and provide the requested information.:)

    Re: Outlook express

make sure OE is the default mail program... goto tools > internet options > programs and check Outlook Express is set as default.

delete your internet temp folder/file ... tools > internet options > delete files

close OE and IE then Go from Start to Run, type in regsvr32 urlmon.dll [enter]

    restart OE and check again.

Thanks for trying Halo, but i tried as you suggested and it still doesn't work. And to Abby Sue, if there was someplace I could find on how to post a new tread, I would have done it. This is a complicated forum.

No big deal mammasgolfing:) A new thread lessens the confusion created when trying to address 2 completely separate problems in the same thread. Everyone's puter is different.

To start a new thread just click that big brown 'new thread' button that is just above the Announcement thread at the top of all forum pages:) Welcome to MG! And don't worry..you'll get the hang of it.:)

just incase OE isnt being registered as default, try this.......

Click Start > Run and type the following line, including the quotation marks, for you its most likely your OE is installed in your C: drive so type
    "C:\program files\outlook express\msimn.exe" /reg ( include quote marks )

and to save my typing fingers, this link has some more options for you, http://www.mvps.org/PracticallyNerded/OE/OE No Links.htm

This may or may not help.

Click start, settings, control panel, folder options, file types tab, scroll to HTM or HTML file, click Advanced button, under actions, highlight "open", click on edit, what do you have for: "Application used to perform action"? Also, is DDE checked?

    With mine, I have:

Halo, thank you so very much for the link. I went to it and have completely solved my problem. This is what I did:
Links Won't Open in Outlook Express
Close OE. then open Internet Explorer. Now, click on Tools, Internet options, Programs, Reset Web Settings, Uncheck "reset my home page", and then click YES. (Compliments of Ron Reddon)

Open Windows Explorer and click on Tools | Folder Options | File Types, then scroll down to URL:Hypertext Transfer Protocol. Click Advanced or Edit, whatever the choice is there. You want to Edit the Open action for this file type. The values should read as follows:

    application:
    "C:\Program Files\Internet Explorer\iexplore.exe" -nohome
(edit the path to your installation of IE as necessary)

    DDE:
    #1: "%1",,-1,0,,,,
    #2: IExplore
    #3: [blank]
    #4: WWW_OpenURL

You could also make things easier by downloading the link fix here.
The link took me to this page http://www.mvps.org/PracticallyNerded/SoftFixes.htm#OE Links
    where I downloaded the fix
    FixEXE.com

Thank you, theefool, also for your help. I really appreciate your fast responses.
