outlook express address book missing

    i did a soft reboot of windows to keep all of my documents but reinstall all the windows files. in the process, i have lost my address book. when i tried to set up OE again, it was an empty address book in the location where the old one would have been saved in my documents. i am looking for ways to recover the old address book. thanks

    Ahhh a dirty or inplace install of Windows while will protect your documents can write over the OE address book as its a windows file, would have needed to back it up first to save your addresses from being overwritten I'm afraid.


    BUT try and search for .wab ( which is the Windows Address Book file type ) on your PC, may also need to goto Folder Options > View tab and click Show Hidden Files and Folders as well as untick hide protected system files, as it may also be renamed as .old as a backup and the new one replaced it, so could use this script from Doug Knox to locate the folder easy http://www.dougknox.com/xp/scripts/xp_findwab.vbs


    Could try a recovery program but in all likelyhood the hard drive block was overwritten, but try it anyhow Recuva
