    Outlook express has started to take around 5 minuets to open and I have no idea why. Everything else on my computer works fine though.

    What is wrong that is causing it to be so slow?

    Scan for spyware first. You may also want ot empty out your folders, if there are too many messages saved, it can slow things down.
    Once it opens, does it run smoothly? Do your messages come in promptly, or is everything sluggish the entire time you are using OE?
    Another shot in the dark you can check: Go to Tools/Accounts/Mail/Properties/Advanced and look to see if the box under Delivery "Leave a copy of the message on server" is checked. If it is, you may have a ton of messages on the server slowing things down. You'll also see options to configure how long you want messages left on the server, etc. A bloated server may slow things down.
    Let us know how things go, and get back to us.

    I agree with Eclayton.

    In addition, sometimes removing or disabling Windows (or MSN) Messenger causes OE to open slowly. This will be shown by an entry in the system error log:

    "The server {FB7199AB-79BF-11D2-8D94-0000F875C541} did not register with DCOM within the required timeout."

    To fix this, open Regedit and navigate to this key:

    HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT
    \CLSID
    \{FB7199AB-79BF-11d2-8D94-0000F875C541}
    \InProcServer32

    In the right-hand pane, double-click on the (Default) value and delete whatever is entered there, leaving it blank. Click OK. Now perform exactly the same step with the key directly underneath, namely

    HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT
    \CLSID
    \{FB7199AB-79BF-11d2-8D94-0000F875C541}
    \LocalServer32

    Once both (Default) values are empty, OE will open normally

    -- I cut and pasted this verbatim from http://www.duxcw.com/yabbse/index.php?board=10;action=display;threadid=4187 because several users had this exact OE 5-minute load problem, and this fix worked. It is a registry hack obviously. I would have tested it but do not have MS Office. --

    I am having exactly the same problem.

    It is intermittent however - does not always do it. I have been constantly checking for spyware and viruses and delete them when they occur.

    Could it be a virus, trojan or worm trying to act and getting stopped by the firewall or virus checker?

    I did that thing in regedit and the time it took went down form 5 min to 3 secs.

    Thank You.
